Countless couples find it difficult to become pregnant on their own. In fact, fertility problems have increased exponentially in the last decade. Unfortunately, there is also an additional stigma associated with fertility issues which increase stress and despair amongst couples struggling to have a baby.
Fertility is a complex subject and infertility is no one’s fault. It is important for patients to open up about their issues, so they may realise that they are not alone in this. Several factors can contribute to difficulty in natural conception. Fortunately, today most of these causes can be diagnosed and treated with the right fertility treatment.
The first step is to shed the fear of infertility and ask for help. Fertility consultation is recommended for couples under the age of 35 with no known suspected causes of infertility who are unable to conceive after 12 months of unprotected intercourse. If the female partner is above the age of 35 years, or either partner is suspected of infertility (for ex: if the female partner had endometriosis), then the recommended waiting time is 6 months.
The most important thing to remember is to not lose hope. “Not happening right now” does not mean “it will never happen”. If not today, tomorrow good news is certain, all that is required is a little push in the right direction.

And so, by the time they are ready to become parents, they may face some problem in conceiving naturally. Modern medical methods like IVF (in-vitro fertilization) and ART (artificial reproductive technique) can help.
- Male infertility can be caused by low sperm production, abnormal sperm function or blockages that prevent the delivery of sperm. Illnesses, injuries, chronic health problems, lifestyle choices and other factors may contribute to male infertility.

- The ability of a womans ovaries to release eggs ready for fertilization declines with age.
- The health of a woman’s eggs declines with age.
- As a woman ages she is more likely to have health problems that can interfere with fertility.
- As a women ages, her risk of having a miscarriage increases.
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a health problem that affects 1 in 10 women of childbearing age. Women with PCOS have a hormonal imbalance and metabolism problems that may affect their overall health and appearance. PCOS is also a common and treatable cause of infertility.
